Traffic violations made across all GCC countries will now be linked through an integrated system. The unified traffic system is currently undergoing finishing touches and is set to be implemented shortly.

The working group held its nineteenth meeting on Tuesday via video conference discussing the implementation of the system.

Discussions during the video conference also included the latest phase of the linking process and activating the exchange of violations between the GCC departments of traffic.

The move intends to reduce the rate of accidents and violations as well as, increase safety and standardisation among motorists and traffic agencies.

The new scheme is set to enable better coordination and easy data exchange among GCC countries.

The linked fine system is also in its final stages of completion with most states ready to implement the initiative.

Once the new system is launched, motorists in all GCC countries will be liable for fines for violations committed across any state. Upon return to the country of residence, the motorist will still have to pay the fine through the linked system.

Last month, Arabian Business reported that Abu Dhabi announced the inauguration of the bilateral linkage of the systems between the UAE and Qatar, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The move was passed in Abu Dhabi between the delegations of the two countries, who also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in the policing and security fields.
